Metro of Love Review Episodes 4 - 7

[Episodes 4 - 7] Couple #2 : The Fool and Sleeping Beauty

Ye Chen Xi is a lonely wife of a renowned pianist, Jack Chao. She runs a small cooking class in her past time while her husband is away overseas in concerts around the world.

Li Feng is a son from a rich family who recently quit his job at his family's company in search for the meaning of life. He is also married and his wife is a very career driven woman who is determined to succeed in life.

The two meet when Li Feng registers as a student in Chen Xi's class. She doesn't know the student list as she solely relies on her husband who takes care of the administrative side of the cooking class. Li Feng grows closer with Chen Xi as they work together in the cooking classes.

Meanwhile, both of them have issues in their marriages. They eventually develop some feelings for each other and shared a passionate kiss on the beach.

However, the two did not end up together. Li Feng and his wife did get a divorce but Chen Xi decided to remain in her marriage with her pianist husband. She closes her cooking class and moves on while Li Feng moves into the former cooking class premises with memories of their time spent together there.

Overall thoughts?

To be honest, it was quite hard to watch this couple as the story was emotionally "heavy". For a moment I thought I was watching the Korean drama, "My Wife's having an affair this week" or "On the way to the airport" ! :D It talks about being lonely in a marriage, marriage fidelity, temptation and divorce.

I felt that a lot of loose ends were not tied up. For example, the stalker with the yellow Converse shoes... Was it Li Feng stalking Chen Xi in the beginning? There was a part he said maybe because he wanted to join the class but the students were all female. Was that it? Chen Xi had so many emotional baggage, she still has not gotten over her grieving loss of her parents and grandmother. It seemed like she did not love her husband at all. He was just at the right place at the right time in her moment of distress that she found comfort in him.

The part where Chen Xi and her friends staged a romantic "patch-up" for her pianist husband at the beach was quite cringey for me. It's supposed to be an intimate moment between her and her husband but her girlfriends were all present there! Seriously...

I was also disappointed that the cute cupid boy character was not continued in this story. I thought he would be the common thread throughout all six stories to tie them all together but not.

There were more scenes in the metro line. From being lonely in the train carriage to meeting her students at the station, listening to street musicians and riding the metro line all the way to the beach gives you more connection to the metro concept.

However, the only eye-candy would be that both the male and female lead were well suited for each other. Both were very model-like looking.
