Metro of Love Review Episodes 1- 3

Drama name: Metro of Love
Country: Taiwan
Year: April - August 2016

I saw the promo ad on my local cable TV, so I've put this on my to-watch list. Finally gotten around to it! :D But I watched this series online so the episodes available are only until Ep 17. I'm not sure the total number of episodes, either 20 or 22.

So, what's this drama about?

This drama consists of six different stories that take place around the metro line in Taipei, Taiwan. I think each episode features a different station on various lines. I'm not familiar with the Taipei underground so I'll just review the episodes by the couples that they feature.

[Episodes 1 - 3] Couple #1 : When Miracle meets Math

Qiu Jing Hui is a Taiwanese photographer based in Japan. She came back to visit her mother who runs a small bed and breakfast in the old district of Taipei. Her mother keeps arranging blind dates for her in order for her to get married as she is not young anymore.

Meanwhile, Shi Zheng Xiong is an engineer based in the Silicon valley in the States. He is also back in Taiwan to visit his father and aunt. Just like Jing Hui, his aunt had arranged numerous blind dates for him in order to find the right woman to marry. He is back in Taiwan for 3 weeks and he rented a room at Jing Hui's mother's B&B.

Their first encounter was a mistaken blind date arrangement. It didn't leave a good impression on both parties and they thought that was the last they will meet. Little did they know that behind the scenes there was a cute cupid boy trying very hard to pull them together!

The two crossed paths again when Jing Hui realised Zheng Xiong was staying at her mother's B&B and Zheng Xiong finds out that she is a photographer while visiting his ex-colleague who is now a model. The two became friends and eventually developed feelings for each other. However, Jing Hui's mother was unhappy with her daughter's closeness with Zheng Xiong. Apparently Jing Hui cannot marry anyone with the surname "Shi" as instructed by their ancestors. She wanted Jing Hui to marry a neighbourhood friend named Ah Long.

After seeing Jing Hui and Zheng Xiong suited each other very well, Jing Hui's mother gave the approval for Jing Hui to be with Zheng Xiong. Alas, but it was time for both of them to part ways. It was at the very last moment that Jing Hui realised Zheng Xiong was the same boy that helped her home when she got lost as a little girl last time. She rushed to the airport in time to catch him and they both got together... The End!

Overall thoughts?

This couple is really sweet. There is an old school 1920s kind of romance atmosphere with these few episodes, especially with its setting in the old district of Taipei. I like how both individuals are mature, rational adults and their romance is slow but really meaningful.

On the concept of the metro line, apart from the opening and ending scenes there are just a couple of train rides here and there. Nothing much to connect the audience to the concept of the underground.

However, there are some really cute scenes with the cupid boy. :D I especially like seeing Jing Hui with her camera as well. She looks really cool!
