Midnight Foodstore Episode 15 review

[Episode 15] Xiao Long

Featured food: Octopus shaped sausages

Just when you were about to give up on this drama, they would air an exciting and action packed episode. This was the story that I wanted to watch so much when I saw the preview way back in the F4 guys episode. I'm not sure why they aired Mark and Lele's episode after that instead of this. Possibly there could have been some censorship by the Chinese government. I read somewhere that they did not want to show the underworld, meaning gangsters, triads and the like. This story is also only one episode long. The rest run more than one episode, which makes the theory of it being edited quite plausible.

Xiao Long is the mysterious cool guy who patrons the diner. He would only order a plate of sausages and not say much. He is actually in charge of several dock areas. His sidekick, Ah Xian is always by his side. Not sure if he is Xiao Long's real brother or not...

Ah Xian jokingly suggests to visit the nightclub owned by the old man, Uncle Xiao... He is the old man who usually hangs out at the diner as well. To Ah Xian's horror, Xiao Long actually said okay! Haha!

Uncle Xiao was so happy to see Xiao Long and offers them free drinks. Nice! ;D Actually, Xiao Long had some business to do there. He meets up with his long time partner, I forgot his name... Oops... :D who also runs the dock area with him. The partner introduces a new investor named Tony. This is the same guy in Metro of Love, the first story with the engineer seeking a partner... Haha! Nice to see him again... but he's so evil looking here! :O Tony was interested to use their docks to bring in some presumably illegal stuff... I'm guessing smuggled goods, drugs or firearms... but they did not mention it.

Xiao Long was being cautious and he tells Tony that his docks are used for legit purposes. He didn't want to be doing anything against the law. He didn't trust Tony because he had a hunch that Tony would use the docks for illegal purposes. However, his partner reassures him that Tony could be trusted...

The two leaves the club... Meanwhile a drunk customer creates a ruckus. He demands the girls to wear bikinis and serve him drinks.. Uncle Xiao tries to calm the customer down by saying if he really wanted he would wear the bikini for him. Hahahah!! The customer got so mad he smashed a bottle on Uncle Xiao's head. Omo! Ah Xian gets up to help but Xiao Long stops him... This part is so gangster, the next scene shows that customer thrown into the cold sea waters... Hahah! Xiao Long is sooo cool... I think I'm in love!

Xiao Long did not realise that he was under police surveillance. Inspector Li has been following him around...If you remember, Inspector Li appeared in the F4 guys episode, he was the one who helped the guys reunite with each other. Back at the diner, Xiao Long learns more about Uncle Xiao from the diner boss. Uncle Xiao seem so gay-ish but he is actually straight. His wife passed away and he lost his son in a car accident. One of the reasons why Uncle Xiao is so interested in Xiao Long is because he reminds him of his son. Xiao Long's behaviour and mannerisms are very much alike.

Shady Tony seeks Xiao Long out again.... this time at the diner. Xiao Long reiterates his stand on the docks being legit and clean, meaning that he would not work together with him. Tony leaves and before Xiao Long left, the diner boss gave him some advice... He said that he would not trust anyone who doesn't enjoy good food! Hahah! Some hidden meaning there... Xiao Long knew what the diner boss meant...

A couple of days later, Inspector Li rushes into the diner looking for Xiao Long. Apparently he had received inside info that Xiao Long was going to be killed... Oh noes! Uncle Xiao panics and rushes out... He steals a motorbike nearby and set off to rescue Xiao Long. Go Uncle!

Meanwhile at the docks, Xiao Long receives news that some trouble was happening and he rushes to the site to check out the situation. As we already know by now, he was being ambushed... Omo! The bunch of gangsters start to attack Xiao Long and Ah Xian... Some badass fighting there! Xiao Long tells Ah Xian to head back to the car while he settles the rest of the gangsters.

As they were leaving, a forklift rammed into their car... The guy who called them there was also in league with the gangsters... The car is pushed and turns upside down, trapping both Xiao Long and Ah Xian inside. :( A car arrives and it turns out to be Tony and his partner. They had collaborated to get rid of Xiao Long so they can use the docks for their own purposes. Tony gets into the driver seat and prepares to ram Xiao Long's car...

Don't worry! Uncle Xiao saves the day! Haha! He stops the motorbike in front of the car, blocking Tony from going any further. Uncle Xiao finds a round of fireworks from the motorbike... I know! It's drama.. ;D He lights it up and throws it into the car and Tony had to get out... By that time the police sirens were blaring and the bad guys escape.

Inspector Li rushes to check on Xiao Long... Yes, they have a prior connection... We shall get to know their backstory later on! ;D He was relieved that Xiao Long was okay.

We finally get to see the "big boss"... The company which Xiao Long is working for... It definitely gives off the triad gang vibes... but let's just take it as they are legit businessmen! ;D The big boss thanks Uncle Xiao for saving Xiao Long's life...

The story ends with Uncle Xiao taking care of Xiao Long. I laughed when he was hugging Xiao Long! ;D He treats Xiao Long just like his son... Aww, I think Xiao Long also knows that so he allows Uncle Xiao to do so...

The featured food is the octopus shaped sausages, but in this episode it is not shown at all. There were no scenes of the diner boss cooking it. Instead, the diner boss was seen frying some eggs! Strange... But I realised that the sausages will be featured again in a later episode. Haha! Sorry,  need to keep some suspense for you too... ;D However, they did show the recipe for the sausages...
